Every holiday we swear we won't go to Masonboro Island and hang out with the boaters and their groupies, but somehow we always end up there. We know what to expect--fights and garbage. There was even a death this year from an accidental propeller accident. This begs the question: Why do peo
ple head there on the busiest weekends? The answer is that it still WAY less crowded than Wrightsville Beach.
The trash content was enormous, as it is every year, and it seemed that anyone who is raised poorly as a child considered the island's beaches to be their personal garbage can. Who gives a shit, right? You know someone is going to pick up after you, so discard your refuse and party on. Anyone who didn't pick up their own trash is an asshole.
