Where To Eat - Vito's Pizza

http://vitospizzawb.com/menu/

Anyone who has not been to WB in a while will remember when this place was called Vitoes Pizza and you could only eat it at 2 AM, because it really wasn't very good, and you would eat anything at that time of night. It's been under new ownership for about four years now and has undergone a complete interior remodelling, fresh paint on the outside, and it now produces excellent pizza at all hours.

The word pizza comes from...who knows where; it's open to debate. Any Italian from Brooklyn will tell you that the word has come to mean "mess," as in people make a mess of it when they try to make this thing for sale. Finding good pizza in Wilmington is also open to debate; its really all about what you like, from the basic pie onward. The starting points are good dough, good cheese (not too much), and good sauce. If you don't have that you could put Megan Fox on it and it will not taste good.

Vito's does a good job of not making things complicated when it comes to their pies. They don't try to do too many other things besides pizza. It's their speciality and the work at making it the best they can. The large pies are $15 and the toppings choices are 1.25 extra for each one. There are salads available and a few specialty pies, and you can also get pizza by the slice for $2.50 (It's just $2 late-night). They also have a decent selection of beer if you want a little extra zing with your meal, but they do seem to focus on the family atmosphere when you dine-in.

Then once the kids are in bed and the adults are out partying (usually after 10PM), they switch to the late-night menu that consists of only regular or pepperoni pies or slices. If you are out and about, it would be a good idea to get there before 1:30 AM to get your food because when the bars let out at 2 AM there is a line to the end of the block for what is the only food on the island.

The crews that work there seem to have the efficiency aspect down pat. You're not going to be waiting too long for you pie because the late-night menu allows them to just keep the ovens firing and the line moving out the door.

After a night of drinking, there is nothing better that a couple of slices of pizza to put a little energy back in your step and allow for one or two more hours of house-partying before bedtime. The added bonus for WB is that now at 2 AM there's a very good chance you'll say that the pizza actually taste good and you won't be lying to yourself.
