WB cops are notorious and have the reputation of being the most dickish in NC. They have a tough job (not really), they are heroes (not lately), they beat their wives and stick their guns in their mouths nightly a la Riggs from Lethal Weapon (maybe), they have black partners that say "I'm getting too old for this shit" (never). In all the many years we've been here we have ne
ver seen a black cop on WB, or a black state trooper, or a black life guard (Big Pimp thumbs up to the Friday night black sheriffs deputy in front of Neptunes!).
Why make this about race? Lots of things in this country are about race. Deal with it, or move to Sweden, or go to the next topic.
According to the last census survey, the island is 1.9 percent minority. On beach days, that stays about the same. On Sunday afternoon the number jumps to about 30%. Why is that? Just Google "Wilmington, NC Riots" and learn how what was once a thriving port of racial harmony and black entrepreneurship turned into the only overthrow of an elected government in US history! That's why this post is about race. Sunday afternoon were the only days that black families were allowed on the island for a very long time. That legacy lives on today but is slowly receding into mire from which it came. Did love for local yokel Michael Jordan make it OK?
How does this translate to modern-day WB? About half the cops on the force are still dicks and they will pull you over for "ridin' dirty." Now if you live here you have no problem with that because it keeps the island safe. If you don't live here you look at it and think that this is some racial bullshit that we need to transcend. There are good guys and bad guys everywhere. There are good cops and bad cops everywhere. The island is friendlier than it's ever been, but the next time you get pulled over, be polite, no matter what color you are.
Some of them are highly trained professionals that are really cool guys who are careful and firm and polite. Some of them are complete assholes with an inferiority complex and were bullies and dicks in high school and they have not changed. Stay off WB if you are up to shit. The reputation of the cops here is well deserved. In the game of psychological warfare, that they continue to win with the public, the reputation is what gives them the ability to keep crime at a bare minimum. Hats off to them, even the dicks. WB has an extremely low crime rate and the police blotter often reads, "Nothing to report today." That would not be possible without the constant, annoying and oppressive patrolling of Wrightsville's Finest.
