Just Try To Find Parking On This Bitch

Another little secret is that there is very little parking on the island after the metered parking spaces have been occupied. One side of Lumina Avenue (the main drag) is closed from parking for the weekend so that emergency vehicles can get through. There is also metered parking on most side streets.

Unfortunately, everyone likes to congregate near the pier on Salisbury or near Wings at South Lumina Station. On the weekends, you can expect to fork over 15-$20 to one of the local bars or residents that are selling their parking spaces. That's your best bet. Driving around looking for a parking space that will cost you about the same for the day is what most people do. Don't be a fool. Split the $20 with a friend or two and enjoy your day at the beach.

If you happen to get a ticket from Lanier Parking, the local parking mafia/private parking contractor, you should pay it ASAP since it goes up every few days and you'll end up with a boot on your car the next time you visit, or get a letter from your local sheriffs office. There will be more on Lanier Parking later since the little scheme that they run for this island is one of the biggest miscarriages of justice and it deserves special attention and perhaps Federal intervention.
